Description

This class is a study of experimental music repertoire largely but not exclusively following the tradition of John Cage and onward into the 21st century. We study the music through performance and discussion, sometimes probing in detail theories of experimental music. Classes often take the form of rehearsals. All instruments and voices are able to take part. Each year the course centers on a different theme, which is used as a guide to select the repertoire we will work on. Recent themes have included, melody, water, indeterminacy, earthworks, text scores, theater, etc.
