Description
This studio-based class complements the Art Foundation curriculum and is structured on class demos designed to introduce basic and advanced painting and drawing techniques. Exploring the materials and methods shown, hands-on working sessions flow directly out of the demonstrations. Readings, slide shows, videos of artists at work, discussions and assignments round out the experience, providing insights into the artmaking process and expanding students' frame of reference. Students should come prepared for sustained studio work in the classroom.
Know-how matters if you want to get where you're going, however perfection is not the objective. Serendipity, happy accidents, and unanticipated moments can lead to new modes of working and spur on ideas. Appreciating uncertainty- the purposeful state of 'not knowing' is something that grows stronger and is one of the advantages of being an artist.
Art Program students at the BFA1 level will be given priority enrollment in the class. The course may be open to other Art students at the BFA2 or BFA3 level by permission of the instructor.
