Description
This course offers filmmakers an introduction to
color correction and grading for digital footage,
using Davinci Resolve as the primary tool.
Students will learn foundational concepts in color
science and theory, engaging in activities such as
image evaluation, contrast and color adjustments,
secondary corrections, creating visual styles
("looks"), and shot matching. The curriculum also
covers working with modern high-resolution camera
files--including 4K RAW, Log, and DNG formats--and
explores workflows for acquisition and integration
with editing software.
Through screenings, readings, and discussions, the
class examines the history and impact of cinematic
color. Students have the opportunity to become a
"DaVinci Resolve Certified User" or "DaVinci
Resolve Certified Colorist" by taking the optional
Blackmagic Design certification exam. The course
is designed to equip you with the necessary color
grading skills to complete your film projects.
Participants will work on their own projects as
well as examples provided by the instructor.
Enrollment is limited to 14 students. Preference
is given to upper-level PFV students, but others
are welcome to enroll.
