Description

This course foregrounds recorded sound as the primary creative and narrative tool in moving image post production. It builds on Production Sound, introducing the fundamental sound design, editing, and mixing standards for motion pictures. Working primarily in Pro Tools, students will explore ways to engender or subvert tone, define or transform space, compress or expand time, establish or resist rhythms, and all at once, tell a story by way of editing, processing, and mixing layers of sound. The course covers everything from dialogue editing and noise reduction, to immersive soundscape building, to creative sound manipulation in Pro Tools and related applications. Each student is required to design and edit a complete soundtrack for their First-year Film or equivalent project. At the end of this course, we will mix this soundtrack in 5.1 surround sound to reflect industry specifications for theatrical exhibition and online streaming.

This class gives students access to Film / Video School editing & mixing rooms F104, A112E.
